A seven-year-old girl, whom US President Donald Trump hinted at in a telephone conversation that Santa Claus does not exist, said she continues to believe in him.

Donald Trump and his wife Melania took part in a traditional Christmas event for children.NORAD tracks Santa“, when social networks and a special website report on the fictitious route along which Santa flies from the North Pole.

The program involves numerous volunteers who receive calls from children; some of the calls went to the White House, where the president himself and his spouse were talking to the children.

With seven-year-old Lloyd Callman from South Carolina, Trump had a conversation like this:

— What are you going to do for Christmas?

“I think we'll bake some cookies and then hang out with our friends, that's all.”

-You're just having a good time.

- Yes, sir.

- Do you still believe in Santa?

- Yes, sir.

- Because at seven years old it’s already on the verge, right?

- Yes, sir.

- Have a good time.

At first everyone thought that Trump was talking with the boy, but then the local edition of Post and Courier uploaded a video conversation on YouTube.

As the girl's parents explained to Post and Courier journalists, the child simply did not understand the meaning of the word marginal that Trump used.

This word in this context can be translated into Russian as “on the verge.” Apparently, Trump meant that 7 years is the limit for believing in Santa.

According to the publication, on Christmas Eve the Collman family left cookies with sugar icing and chocolate milk under the tree for Santa. The next morning, the treats were gone, and under the tree was a gift for Lloyd—an American Girl doll.

“Santa still exists,” said the girl.

After the telephone conversation became public, users of social networks attacked Trump and began to sneer at him, accusing the president of having spoiled Christmas for the children.

The tradition of such calls originated in the United States in 1955, as a result of an error, when the wrong phone was given in the mall's advertisements, so that children could call Santa Claus.

In fact, the phone belonged to the center of the Continental Aerospace Defense Command (now this organization is called NORAD).
