Over the past year, the rich club has lost every tenth of last year's members, but gained new ones, and overall the number of billionaires has decreased by only 55 people, and their wealth has decreased by $400 billion.

“Two features of this year: the Chinese list has noticeably thinned out, and the weakening of the euro has reduced the fortunes of Europeans in dollar terms,” notes Forbes co-editor Kerry Dolan.

Over the course of a year, more than a hundred Chinese billionaires lost zeros and dropped out of the list amid the slowdown of the gigantic Chinese economy, which reverberated throughout the world - from Europe and Africa to the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

In all these regions there were losses, and only in America there were more super-rich people last year. In addition to Brazil, the main contribution was made by the United States, where there is now a record number of billionaires - 609. Representatives of the richest country in the world dominate the top 20 list - there are 14 Americans.

Basically they get richer due to the growth of shares of their companies. Last year, Amazon’s market value, for example, exceeded 1 trillion dollars, which supported Bezos at the top of the rating.

The reverse is also true. Facebook's troubles and the drop in the company's shares by almost a third turned Mark Zuckerberg into the main loser of the top ten - his fortune decreased by almost $9 billion and he dropped from fifth to eighth place.

Oil, copper and gas pipes

The top 50 richest people on the planet include five regulars at the top of the Russian Forbes ranking, dominated by oil workers and metallurgists. Of these, the head of Novatek, Leonid Mikhelson, climbed the highest - he has 32nd place and $24 billion.

The rest round out the top ten: Vladimir Lisin from NLMK (45th place, $21,3 billion), Vagit Alekperov from Lukoil (47th, $20,7 billion), Alexey Mordashov from Severstal (48th, $20,5 .49 billion) and Gennady Timchenko, whom Forbes characterizes as “one of the most influential people in Russia, closely associated with President Vladimir Putin” (20,1th, $XNUMX billion).

Ukraine in the world club of the rich is lonely mogul Rinat Akhmetov. His closest pursuers do not rise above the 1500-th place, and he, with 6 billion dollars, occupies the 272-th line of the rating.
