The Russian killed his best friend: why the residents of the town took his side and paid him a lawyer

The Russian killed his best friend for the rape of his 8-year-old daughter. Local residents signed a petition to declare him not guilty and paid all legal fees. The edition told in more detail New York Post.

Vyacheslav M., 34, a worker at a rocket engine plant, is under house arrest in Pribrezhnoye, Samara Oblast, Russia, after confessing to stabbing his former best friend Oleg Sviridov.

More than 1100 local residents signed a petition demanding that all charges be dropped against Vyacheslav, who said he found a video in which 32-year-old Sviridov rapes his daughter and other local children aged 6 and over.

The supporters who hail the father as a hero have also contributed to fundraising so he can get a better lawyer.

“We raised money, thank you all,” Vyacheslav’s father said in the update. “Not only friends or relatives helped, but also all the village residents.”

One of his supporters said the locals were "united" in wanting his release and justification because "he saved our children from potential violence."

Legal experts have warned that he is likely to continue to face jail time and officials will question events prior to the murder.

Vyacheslav himself came to the police to confess and said that he did not want to kill the rapist, but simply planned to detain him. But during the fight, he himself ran into a knife.

Lawyer Vera Podkolzina considers it critical to prove Sviridov's guilt based on video evidence.

“It’s difficult to say what punishment the girl’s father may face, but he has very strong mitigating circumstances,” she concluded.
