Russian from jealousy chopped off his wife's hands: he was sentenced to 14 years in prison

The court of the city of Serpukhov (Russia) sentenced a local resident Dmitry Grachev to the 14 years of a strict regime colony, which he chopped off his wife's hands on the basis of jealousy.

At the same time the victim Margarita Gracheva was unhappy with the decision of the court, writes with the BBC.

He was found guilty of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm resulting in the loss of an organ, as well as abduction and the threat of murder. Grachev pleaded guilty only in causing grievous bodily harm. The prosecutor asked the man to be sentenced to 17 years in prison.

The court charged 2 million 35 thousand rubles (30 320 dollars) from Grachev in compensation for moral damage. The victim demanded compensation in the amount of 8 million rubles (121 360 dollars).

Speaking with the last word, the defendant stated that he repented of his deed, and also asked for forgiveness from his wife and children. After the verdict was announced, Grachev announced his intention to appeal it.

In this case, the injured woman found the sentence too soft.

“This is not the end yet, there is an appeal against the verdict, against the decision to deprive him of parental rights, a court with a district police officer... I believe that such actions should be imprisoned for life, no sentence will return my hands,” she said.

According to her, she will have several operations and long-term rehabilitation procedures, “after recovery, a maximum of 20% of functionality can be returned, complete recovery is impossible.”

Earlier, the court deprived the defendant of parental rights. Dmitry and Margarita Gracheva have two common children.

"Hostile relationship due to jealousy"

According to the investigation, 11 December 2017, Grachev took the phone from his wife, put her in the car and, having blocked the doors, took her to the forest, where he chopped off her hands with an ax, causing at least ten blows. He was convinced that Gracheva was cheating on him and demanded that she confess to this.

According to the senior assistant to the head of the Moscow region department of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Olga Vradiy, Grachev prepared for the crime in advance - he bought plastic clamps and an ax, as well as tourniquets and a bandage with iodine.

Cut off his wife's hands, he treated the wounds so that she would not bleed to death, took her to the hospital and landed there. On the same day he came to the police and confessed everything.

Gracheva managed to sew one brush later, the second one was replaced with a bionic prosthesis.

A month earlier, Grachev, experiencing “hostility based on jealousy” towards his wife, also took her to the forest, where he threatened to kill her, but eventually let her go, investigators found out.

After that, Gracheva appealed to the police, but the district police officer ordered the refusal to open a criminal case due to the absence of corpus delicti. According to Vradiy, the district policeman is prosecuted for negligence.

In January, Gracheva managed to get a divorce, however, according to her, even after the arrest, her ex-husband continued to threaten her, passing the notes through his acquaintances.
