Russia asks US to send more diplomats to Moscow to start issuing visas again

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov spoke about bilateral relations between Russia and the United States while speaking at the Fort Ross Dialogue forum.

This is a Russian-American conference that is being held online this year.

The diplomat appreciated the interaction of the two countries in the field of strategic stability.

According to Ryabkov, now it has reached a plateau and there is hope for improvement.

Moscow and Washington are working to raise the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons, but the US, the Russian deputy minister noted, would like to be more specific in these matters.

“We are concerned that in recent years the United States has deliberately added uncertainty to the question of under what circumstances nuclear weapons could be used. We want more clarity here,” said the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation.

As Ryabkov noted, on the Russian side, “there are three recent documents that explain in what extremely hypothetical circumstances the use of nuclear weapons could be considered.” “We are working to raise the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons,” he emphasized, expressing hope that “this will be reflected in a future review of the nuclear situation in the United States.”

The current crisis in relations between Russia and the United States may be more dangerous than the Cold War, reports TASS.

“Let me say with all sincerity, friends and colleagues, that in our assessment, what we see today in bilateral relations between Russia and the United States can be described as a very severe and complex crisis, perhaps to the extent that in some senses it surpasses the bad situation our two countries went through during the Cold War. It can be even more dangerous because at that time there were clear boundaries and rules, and now there is too much uncertainty around it all. This is quite risky,” Ryabkov said.

“Well, diplomatic wars need to be stopped altogether,” said Ryabkov. And he called on the United States to send new diplomats to Moscow in order to normalize the situation with the issuance of American visas to Russians.

“The American diplomatic presence in Russia has been reduced to such a low level that the US Embassy can no longer offer basic consular services, such as issuing visas for Russian citizens who need to travel to the States. The United States now requires our citizens to travel abroad in order to obtain a US visa. We in Moscow consider this situation unacceptable. We call on the United States to strengthen its diplomatic mission in Moscow and send new employees so that at least consular services in Russia are provided in a more or less normal volume,” said Sergei Ryabkov.
