Russian diplomats declared persona non grata leave US
A plane flew from St. Petersburg to Washington, which is supposed to pick up employees of the Russian mission to the UN, who have been declared persona non grata, reports Voice of America.
On March 5, a Russian flight departed St. Petersburg for Washington to pick up Russian diplomats who were removed this week from their posts at the United Nations and declared persona non grata by US authorities on national security grounds, officials said.
Russia denies the allegations and says it will retaliate over the expulsion. To deliver the diplomats from St. Petersburg to Washington, a special flight detachment "Russia" flew out, according to the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“Russian diplomats, whom the US government has declared persona non grata, will return to their homeland on this plane,” Zakharova wrote in her Telegram channel.

Tensions between Washington and Moscow have escalated since Russia invaded Ukraine a week ago, sparking the worst humanitarian disaster in Europe in decades.
A State Department spokesman said the United States had approved a charter flight ordered by the Russian government to remove Russian diplomats from the United Nations who had been expelled for abusing their privileges.
“This special exception was made in accordance with federal regulations to ensure the departure of the Russian mission staff and their families by the date we indicated,” a State Department spokesman said.
