California restaurant requires customers to prove they are not vaccinated

A restaurant in the conservative town of Huntington Beach in Southern California is demanding that customers prove they are not vaccinated against COVID-19 in protest against public health protections. Writes about it Huff Post.

This message hangs on the window of the Italian restaurant Basilico's Pasta e Vino.

“We have zero tolerance for treasonous and anti-American stupidity,” one reads.

In fact, clients do not need to show proof that they are not vaccinated, since the official documentation is only for people who have been vaccinated.

The owner of the restaurant Tony Roman said that in this way he is fighting "tyrants".

“With warning signs of a looming lockdown, many business owners are once again cheering on what I call the 'tiny tyrants' isolated - this time by instituting proof-of-vaccination policies - we have decided to launch another wave of defiance to continue to defend American freedom." - said Roman.

The highly transmitted delta variant of COVID-19 has dramatically increased the number of cases across the country. A Mayo Clinic doctor warned last week that Delta "will find everyone who is not insured." Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, called the new wave a "pandemic of the unvaccinated."

Over the past week, California has reported an average of nearly 5000 new coronavirus cases per day, more than four times more than a month ago.

Some state businesses are reimposing mask requirements. California has introduced vaccination or weekly test requirements for all government employees and some health care workers.

About 55% of the residents of Orange County, where Basilico's is located, are fully vaccinated. And they are expected in many other restaurants.
