Destroyed villages and hundreds of victims: a strong tornado swept across the Czech Republic
A devastating tornado occurred in the Czech Republic. At least 5 people were killed and about 300 were injured. The publication told in more detail with the BBC.

“This is real hell,” the governor of the region of South Moravia, Jan Grolich, described what was happening.
A powerful tornado devastated entire areas of several settlements.
Rescuers provide emergency assistance to the victims. An emergency has been declared in the affected areas.
As a result of the tornado, hundreds of houses were destroyed and thousands were left without gas and electricity. Public transport has stopped running.
Huge destruction
The pictures of destruction in the Hodonin area are amazing. In one video, cars are lying in a heap like children's toys, and logs and boards are scattered on the ground like matches.
“My favorite car is out there somewhere,” says a man filming the incident on his phone.

A nursing home and a zoo were damaged in Hodonin.
“The church has lost its bell tower, only the walls of the school remain,” said the mayor of the village, Grushki Babich.
The wind, whose speed reached 267-322 km/h, leveled part of the town of Hodonin and parts of nearby villages - Luzice, Gruski, Moravska Nova Ves and Mikulcice, said ambulance service representative Gedvika Kropackova.
Several dozen people were taken to hospital with injuries. At least 10 of them are in serious condition.
The Czech media are reporting incredible tornado damage. On social media videos, the hardest hit areas look like they were after a bombing raid.
According to Deputy Mayor Marek Babis, half of the village of Grushki has leveled off. Roofs tore off the village houses, the wind overturned cars and uprooted trees. The town was hit by a hail of 10 centimeters in size.

Hurricane and hail damaged the roof and windows of the palace in the town of Valtice, located in the South Moravian region. The hail was the size of a tennis ball.
On the Prague-Bratislava highway near the affected settlements, a traffic jam more than 50 km long in both directions was formed due to fallen trees and power line supports.
In total, about 78 thousand houses in the Czech Republic were left without electricity.
The military, as well as rescuers from Austria and Slovakia, came to the aid of the Czech rescuers to eliminate the consequences of the disaster. Czech Interior Minister Jan Hamacek wrote on Twitter that his department has sent rescue units from all over the country to the region.
The authorities offer the victims an initial compensation of about $ 2,7 thousand. There is also a collection of aid for the victims.
Rescuers have completed a search for people in the ruins of houses in Moravska Nova Ves.
“All objects were examined. No one was found. Our activities are now focused on liquidation work, that is, removing fallen trees and damaged electrical poles,” commented Martin Kavka, a representative of the Prague fire brigade.
Where in the Czech Republic a tornado
In fact, tornadoes in these places are not so rare as people think: there are about a hundred of them on the continent every year. Accurate estimates, however, vary, and some of the eddies go unnoticed because they occur far from cities and villages.
Tornadoes are observed on all continents of our planet, except Antarctica - and even there this atmospheric phenomenon is theoretically possible.
Most often, tornadoes can be found in the United States. On average, more than a thousand elements are observed there a year. They are also the most destructive there.
Ideal conditions for them are created by the mountainous landscape and proximity to the humid and warm Gulf of Mexico. Thanks to them, special thunderclouds appear - supercells - from which tornadoes are born.
