Airport Security Check: 7 New Rules for Air Travelers

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is making some changes to the verification process, which will be adopted at airports throughout the country. These changes are a response to the coronavirus pandemic that has swept the country and the whole world.

You can carry more hand sanitizer

To get started, you are allowed to pack up to 12 ounces (350 ml) of hand sanitizer per passenger in your carry-on baggage until further notice, which is different from TSA's standard rules for liquids.

“As these containers exceed the standard clearance normally allowed through the checkpoint, they will need to be inspected separately. This will add some time to the screening process,” TSA says.

According to the standard rule, all other liquids, gels and aerosols should be no more than 3,4 ounces (100 ml) in volume and stored in a transparent bag with a total volume of 1 liquid quart (a little less than 1 liter).

You will not give your boarding pass to anyone.

You will no longer be able to transfer your boarding pass or phone with the ticket open on the screen to TSA, which has been a normal process for many years.

Instead, you will be asked to place the document in the boarding pass reader, and then hand it to the TSA to check it while you are holding it. Thus, agents are less likely to have to touch boarding passes.

You will be asked to keep a distance

As you would expect, you will be asked to stay away from other people at a recommended distance of at least 6 feet (about 2 meters).

“Changes include counting passengers to increase the distance between people as they queue at security checkpoints, placing visual reminders of appropriate spacing at security checkpoints, and appropriate use of lanes where possible,” it says. TSA.

You can wear a mask during inspection

The TSA says that you can wear a mask during a security check, but the agency reserves the right to ask you to take it off at any time.

Many airlines now require passengers to wear masks during flights.

You can ask agents to wear fresh gloves.

The passenger may ask the TSA to put on a new pair of gloves during check-in.

The agency will also use new explosive tracing kits for every traveler.

You can use outdated and incompatible IDs

Any traveler who has expired on March 1 or later with a state driver’s license or identity card can still use these documents to identify him at the checkpoint for a year after they expire.

In addition, you now have time until October 1, 2021, to obtain a driver license compatible with REAL ID.

You will be asked to put food separately before checking

TSA insists that passengers pack their products in a plastic bag and place it in a separate container for inspection. This change also takes into account the new requirements of social distance.

The agency explains:

“The presence of food in the luggage often raises doubts among employees during the verification process; Separating food from carry-on baggage reduces the likelihood that a TSA officer will need to open the bag and take out products for a closer inspection.
