Products that recall before Thanksgiving

Romaine lettuce

Health officials are warning people to stay away from Romain lettuce after it caused an outbreak of E. coli, which resulted in the hospitalization of a 13 person, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Tuesday.

Ground beef

Nearly 50 tons of ground beef were recalled after the USDA announced that it could be infected with E. Coli. Officials announced Saturday that brands, including Swift Ground Beef and Blue Ribbon Ground Beef, are unsafe.

According to the CDC, Escherichia coli is a collection of bacteria found in "the environment, food and the intestines of people and animals." Although bacteria are usually harmless, some types of them can cause diarrhea, severe infections, including pneumonia and even death, the CDC added.

Turkey

Jennie-O recalls nearly 50 tons of raw turkey meat due to a salmonella outbreak. As a result, one death was recorded and 164 people sought medical help.

Health officials advise people to be more careful when cooking raw meat, especially on the eve of Thanksgiving.

The US Department of Agriculture also reminded consumers that it was necessary to cook a turkey at a temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit (70 Celsius).

The only way to make sure that the turkey is cooked at a high enough temperature to kill the harmful bacteria is to use a food thermometer that measures the internal temperature.

It is recommended to thaw the turkey in the microwave, in the refrigerator or in cold water, which must be changed every 30 minutes.

Health officials also warn that it may be unsafe to feed a domesticated turkey.

Cake Mixes

Four types of cake mixes Duncan Hines are being recalled by Conagra Brands because of the potential risk of Salmonella contamination.

Conagra decided to voluntarily withdraw this product and its three other varieties (Classic Butter Golden, Signature Confetti and Classic Yellow) made during the same time period, the FDA said in a statement.

After consuming the mixes for the cake, five people became ill with salmonellosis. The FDA suggested that perhaps some of the victims did not bake these products, but consumed them raw.

All cake mixes sold in 15,25 ounces have an end date of use - 7-13 March 2019.

Salmonellosis is one of the most common foodborne bacterial diseases. Its symptoms can vary: some people tolerate the disease relatively easily when faced with diarrhea, vomiting and fever, in some cases this disease can lead to death. Especially hard to suffer this disease preschoolers, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems and chronic health problems.

Symptoms of the disease usually appear within 12-72 hours and continue for 4-7 days.
