An explosion occurred at a sex disclosure party in New Hampshire, police said, and sparked reports of an earthquake. Echoes could be heard throughout the state, as well as in neighboring Massachusetts.

Police in Kingston, a town near the Massachusetts border, received reports of a loud explosion on the evening of Tuesday, April 27. The police arrived at the Torromeo quarry, where they found people who admitted to hosting a sex disclosure party with explosives.

The source of the explosion was 80 pounds (36 kg) of tannerite, police said. The family thought the quarry would be the safest place for explosives, which are commonly sold as targets for firearms.

Local residents said their houses were damaged in the explosion, and some reported material damage.

“We heard this terrible explosion,” Sarah Taglieri, who lives in a house adjacent to the quarry, told the station. “He knocked pictures off our walls... I’m all for fun, but this was extreme.”

Talieri's husband, Matt, told TV that neighbors had reported cracks in the foundations of their homes in the blast.

Police said there were no reports of injuries. The man who bought and blew up the tannerite surrendered to the police. His name is not called.

Police said they saw video of the gender reveal and can confirm that the unborn child is a boy, NBC Los Angeles reported. The investigation is ongoing and they will decide on charges.

The explosion was the latest so far in a series of dramatic and dangerous sex announcement parties. The practice, during which parents-to-be announces the sex of their unborn child in a special way, became popular about ten years ago.
