US Ambassador to Russia John Huntsman resigns

On Tuesday, August 6, US Ambassador to Russia John Huntsman filed a resignation letter with President Donald Trump.

“American citizenship is a privilege, and I believe that the main responsibility in return is to serve our country,” Huntsman was quoted as saying. The Hill. “I am honored by the trust you have placed in me as the United States Ambassador to Russia during a historically difficult period in bilateral relations.”

“I hope there will be sufficient time to appoint and confirm a successor,” Huntsman added. “I am committed to making every effort to facilitate a smooth transition that ensures that our foreign policy objectives remain properly focused.”

Huntsman will step down from 3 on October 2019, exactly two years after he headed the US Embassy in the Russian Federation.

Huntsman previously served as Governor of Utah in the United States. He plans to return home and is considering launching a new gubernatorial campaign. The publication reports that Huntsman’s possible resignation was discussed earlier amid speculations that he would apply for a public post in America.

John Huntsman was elected Governor of Utah at 2004, and then in 2008. He left his post in 2009 to become the US ambassador to China at the request of Barack Obama. In 2011, Huntsman resigned and ran unsuccessfully for the presidency.

In a letter of resignation, Huntsman added that he told Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that he and his family want to return home to "re-establish communication with our growing family and responsibilities."

Tramp chose Huntsman to the post of ambassador to the Russian Federation in his first year at the White House. It is reported that even then, Huntsman was going to remain in this post for two years.

In the 2018 year, Huntsman was persuaded to resign after Helsinki Summit with Trump and President Vladimir Putin. Then it seemed that Trump had sided with Putin regarding Russia's interference in the 2016 elections of the year. But then Huntsman said he would continue serving in the “fragile” era of US-Russian relations.
