Police ask not to pick up dollar bills from the ground: it can be deadly

Authorities have issued a warning about the potential risks associated with lifting folded dollar bills following recent incidents. Dailyvoice.

The Giles County Sheriff's Department in Tennessee announced on Thursday, June 9, two cases in which people held up folded dollar bills containing white powdery substances.

Each substance tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl, the sheriff's department said.

In both cases, dollar bills were found on the floor of the gas station. Authorities added that a small amount of powder containing fentanyl could kill a person who came into contact with it.

“Please tell your children and teach them not to pick up folded money that they can find on the streets, playgrounds, etc. without being extra careful and without even reporting the find to parents or guardians,” the Sheriff’s Department said.
