Baltimore cop planted drugs and immediately “found” them
A police officer from Baltimore, Maryland threw a bag of drugs at the station to “find” them. He writes about it CNN.
Richard Pinheiro, an American police officer from Baltimore, was charged with faking a crime. He planted a bag of drugs on an abandoned site, and then pretended that he himself had found them. Pinheiro did not suspect that the moment the drug was bookmarked would be recorded by a underwear video camera.
A video dated January 24 shows how Richard is hiding a bag of drugs under a pile of rubbish, and after 30 seconds a call recording appears. Pinheiro tells his partner that he is going to check this place, inspects a bunch of garbage and "finds" drugs. Shooting ends at the partner asking him what happened.
Pinheiro did not take into account that the wearable video cameras are configured in such a way that they retain not only the recording of specific moments, but also 30 seconds before manual activation of the recording mode.
The Baltimore Police Department launched an investigation and, as Kevin Davis, the city’s police commissioner, said, the investigation should determine if there was a criminal offense or administrative procedures were violated.
Due to the publication of this video, prosecutors refused a criminal case against a suspect who was in prison for more than six months on charges of selling drugs. Pinheiro was a witness in this case.
Baltimore police reported that one of the officers, who appears in the video, was removed from office, and the other two were transferred to administrative duties until the completion of the internal investigation.
The lawyer for the police officer, Debbie Katz Levy, stated that her client was going to recreate the reasons to justify the arrest of the suspect in the investigation that Pininero was conducting.
Gene Ryan, president of the Fraternal Order of the Police, the chief police alliance in Baltimore, called for patience.
«Мне бы очень не хотелось, чтобы все делали скоропалительные выводы. Дождитесь результатов расследования», — сказал он.
Since 2011, Baltimore has paid more than 13 million dollars to settle lawsuits alleging that the police are committing administrative violations and even crimes.
The Baltimore police have previously been accused of having a very negative attitude towards the residents of the city. In particular - racial discrimination and rude treatment. This episode is another blow to the confidence of the residents of the city to the police.
