Nile's mother said that her son grew marijuana, used methamphetamine, and had longstanding conflicts with neighbors.

According to her, it was she who pledged 160 000 dollars and spent 10 000 dollars on a lawyer after her son was arrested for assaulting a neighbor with a kitchen knife.

She admitted that she was talking to her son on the day of the attack.

She said that Neal apologized to her during their brief conversation, but she thought that it was about his actions in the past, and not about what he intended to do.
