Some holders of green cards were banned by Trump to enter the US

Some holders of so-called green cards, giving the right to reside in the United States, also came under a temporary ban on entry into the United States, according to the US Department of Homeland Security, reports Reuters. This means that citizens of Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia and Sudan, who have a green card, having left the United States, will not be able to return to the country.

“The ban will also be imposed on green card holders,” department spokeswoman Gillian Christensen confirmed.

As reported by with the BBC at the US Department of State, the agency is working on the immediate implementation of this ban.

Student or work visas received about 25 thousands of citizens from seven countries over the past three years who were banned by Trump’s decree, according to the US Department of Homeland Security.

In addition, almost 500 thousands of people from seven countries received green cards over the past 10 years, which allow them to live and work in the US for an indefinite time. From a legal point of view, green card holders are considered foreigners, writes ProPublica.

Citizens of Iran and Iraq own much more green cards and US visas than representatives of the other five countries. Over the past 10 years, Iranian and Iraqi citizens have received over 250 thousands of green cards.

Earlier it was reported that Donald Trump ceased for an indefinite period of admission of Syrian refugees to the country, and also froze the program for receiving refugees from other countries for 120 days.

This week, the media have already reported that in addition to suspending the program for accepting refugees, a moratorium on the entry of 7 citizens of Muslim countries (Sudan, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, Iraq, Iran and Syria) is expected to be introduced.

On Saturday, agencies reported that residents of 7 countries with a predominantly Muslim population that are being banned from entering the United States, collided with refusals when buying tickets in the United States and when flying to the United States.

The UN and a number of European countries have already called on Washington to reconsider its decision to stop accepting refugees and to refuse the residents of Syria and 6 more states to enter the United States.

The text of Trump's decree to suspend the program for accepting refugees states that the United States will accept no more than 50 thousands of refugees in the 2017 fiscal year, while giving priority to refugees persecuted for religious reasons.

As the BBC correspondent notes, if the United States accepts refugees according to their religion, Washington may violate international law that guarantees equal protection to refugees regardless of their religion, nationality or race.
