Nearly 4 Thousands of Patients at the New Jersey Surgical Center Could Become HIV and Hepatitis
The New Jersey Department of Health has stated that more than 3000 patients from the HealthPlus surgical center in Saddle Brook could get HIV, hepatitis B or C.
Officials say that patients who underwent procedures at the HealthPlus surgical center in Saddle Brook between January 2018 of the year 7 of September of 2018 could have been exposed to these viruses, writes NBC.
The administrator of the surgical center, Betty McCabe, stated that the possible infection was associated with "deficiencies in the control of infections," including inadequate cleaning of instruments and injection drugs. McCabe stressed that 3 778 patients are strongly advised to take a blood test to test for these viruses.
The Department of Health stated that the risk of infection was low and no diseases were reported, but people are still being asked to be tested as a precautionary measure.
The surgical center will pay for the medical expenses associated with testing.
