Why working as a teacher in the USA is life threatening
Last year, more than 10 thousands of teachers, administrators or other school staff were attacked or threatened by students, reports The Post.
This is 4,5% more than a year earlier, and 11,8% more than 2 a year ago.
Teachers are confident that most of the incidents do not fall into official data due to high pressure from the De Blasio administration to show that security is improving.
The publication writes that the Department of Education did not want the public to hear about these issues, therefore The Post it took 18 months to get data on safety in schools.
The head of the teachers' union, Mike Mulgrew, spoke about his “disappointments” in not having been able to negotiate clauses in contracts that provide security plans for each of the schools, as well as counseling, training and conflict resolution.
Mulgrew does not seem to be outraged while the mayor continues to pay. In addition, the De Blasio team cannot do much for the security of union members, but it protects the union by doing everything possible to put pressure on (mostly non-union) charter schools.
