For some of America's top athletes, their favorite "meal day" foods include pizza, ice cream and even Oreo cookies.
But while in the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro, athletes will be offered more traditional and healthy meals in the dining room the size of two American football fields.
Athletes will be able to choose food from five different buffets: Brazilian, Asian, international, pasta and pizza, as well as halal and kosher, depending on preferences and dietary needs.
Korean athletes will be able to feel at home, as they will bring kimchi - the famous Korean fermented cabbage with green onions and various vegetables.
In addition to the main products, such as rice, black beans, farofa (roasted cassava flour, which is often sprinkled with food) and meat, regional Brazilian dishes and 40 fruit varieties of the country, including cashew, will be presented in the Brazilian buffet. , acai, carambola (star fruit), Japanese persimmon, guava and passion fruit.
The kitchen ordered 4 a million biodegradable plates for serving up to 60 thousands of servings per day for athletes participating in the Olympics, which will run from 5 to August 21.
Paralympic Games from 7 to September 18 will offer the same selection of dishes.
In addition to the common dining room, athletes will have the opportunity to dine at training facilities organized by their national teams.
“We are confident that our Brazilian food will be a success,” said Marcello Cordeiro, director of the food and beverage department of the Rio-2016 organizing committee. “We are doing our best to gather the whole world in Brazil.”
