A cancer-related pesticide found in almost every product in the US

Scientists at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) discovered glyphosate, which is used as a herbicide from 1970-ies in everything from corn to honey, from crackers to oatmeal, reports The Guardianreferring to records received upon request under the Freedom of Information Act. The FDA has tested glyphosate in food for two years, but has not published official results.

Linda Birnbaum, a toxicologist and director of the US National Institute of Environmental Health, said that even a small exposure to a pesticide can be dangerous.

FDA spokesman said The Guardianthat the agency did not detect any illegal level of glyphosate in corn, soy, milk, or eggs in its official samples.

The FDA noted that checking glyphosate levels in honey and oatmeal was not on their list of products to be tested.

Farmers struggle with weeds without harming their crop, thanks to glyphosate, which is in the popular brand of Monsanto. More than 200 million pounds are used in the USA each year. Roundup (90,7 tons).
