The first dog from a shelter in the White House: what makes Biden's pets remarkable
In 2018, at a pet shelter, US President Joe Biden took a shepherd named Major to his home. Why he became a special dog in the White House, said the publication "Voice of America".
Over the past 150 years, all presidents, with the exception of Donald Trump, have had pets. Trump was not fond of the idea of a dog in the White House.
“What would I look like walking my dog on the White House lawn? Somehow, not very well,” Trump said then.
The Major will be the first dog in the White House to be adopted from a shelter.
“Major came to us when someone called and said they had 6 German Shepherd puppies. They said that they were in poor condition and were sick,” says shelter representative Patrick Carroll.

As soon as the puppies recovered and gained strength, the shelter posted a video with them on social media, where they caught the attention of Joe Biden's daughter.
And it so happened that the Biden were looking for a friend at that time for their dog Champ (Champion).
Biden's inauguration ceremony was also celebrated at the orphanage.
According to media reports, the president's family is considering taking a cat to the White House.
“Biden talks a lot about unity. He wants to unite us and reduce the political divide. I think it will be difficult, but it can bring together those who love cats and those who love dogs. And this will be much easier than uniting Democrats and Republicans,” says Andrew Geiger, a spokesman for the Presidential Pet Museum.

Although u VP Kamala Harris has no pets, she seems to be dog friendly, at least based on a 2019 tweet. "Dogs are always welcome in my office in the Senate," she tweeted, sharing pictures of the dogs.
