On May 8, when the United States celebrates Mother's Day, Jill Biden will meet in Slovakia with Ukrainian mothers and their children who were forced to flee Ukraine due to Russian shelling.

During the visit, she plans to visit Bucharest, as well as make stops in Bratislava, Kosice and the village of Vyshne Nemecke, which is located on the border with Ukraine.

As of the end of April, about 871 people left Ukraine for Romania, and 300 for Slovakia.

Joe Biden's visit

The head of the Intelligence Committee of the US House of Representatives, Adam Schiff, believes that US President Joe Biden's visit to Ukraine will take place "as soon as it becomes possible," reports NV.

“I think a presidential visit is being considered, the only question is how soon it will be possible,” Schiff said. According to him, "it's a matter of time."

He said this in an interview, talking about the meeting of a delegation of members of the US Congress with President Vladimir Zelensky on May 1.

The meeting with Zelensky, as he said, will be devoted to further US assistance to Ukraine in the new phase of the war, in particular, in the supply of long-range artillery. He noted that members of the delegation passed this information on to President Biden.

“We discussed in detail the next phase of the war. It moves from the stage when the Ukrainians ambushed Russian tanks (it was close combat) to fighting at a distance using long-range artillery, and this changes the nature of what Ukraine needs for defense, ”Schiff said.

The Congressional delegation also discussed with Zelensky the humanitarian crisis, the problems of refugees, the commission of war crimes by Russian troops. Members of the delegation also aimed to convey a message of support to Zelensky, the congressman noted.

During an April 28 address, Biden confirmed that he had decided to ask Congress for $33 billion in additional support for Ukraine, including $20 billion in military aid and $8,5 billion in economic aid.
