The couple turned the school bus into a motor home for traveling around the US
Nicholas Underwood of Atlanta and Heather Yandziak of Ashburn, Virginia, spent $40 to turn a school bus into a solar-powered home and fulfill their dream of living on the open road with their dog Milo, writes Daily Mail.
The couple dreamed of living away from civilization and, in order to fulfill their dream, retooled the Thomas Vista 3600 1998 bus of the year of manufacture. They spent one year and $ 40 thousand for work. Their creation was called Vicaribus.
“From the very beginning we knew we wanted to be able to stay in the outback rather than in campsites. First of all, it’s cheaper to stay in the wild, and it’s also much nicer than sharing a tent with other travelers,” Underwood said.
The use of solar panels forced the couple to reconsider their attitude towards energy consumption. They installed low power LEDs and a refrigerator that runs on a generator. We also decided not to install air conditioning, as it consumes a lot of energy, and use a small fan.
In April, the couple traveled from Denver and have already traveled to New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Idaho, having traveled 8851 kilometers.
They hope to visit Washington, Oregon and California.
