From Chicago to New York: strong heat is expected in the northeastern United States

In the northeastern United States - from Chicago to New York - the air temperature was too high for the beginning of summer.

At Chicago Midway International Airport, for the first time since September 2018, the heat was recorded in 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius), writes ABC News.

In Denver, thermometers also showed 90 degrees Fahrenheit for the first time since last September. New York's LaGuardia Airport also recorded temperatures of 90 degrees for the first time this year.

In order for the rise in temperature in Chicago, New York and Philadelphia to be officially considered a heat wave, the air temperature must be kept at a level not lower than 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) for three consecutive days. Forecasts for the next few days suggest that there should be no cooling.

The heat will even reach parts of the Upper Midwest, with temperatures expected to reach 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 Celsius) over the weekend in Minnesota.

Severe weather

Many regions of the United States continue to suffer because of wet and windy weather. In the evening, June 26 in the south of Chicago fell more than 4 inches (10 cm) of rain, which caused sudden floods, disruptions in traffic and led to the need for rescue operations.

In southwest Missouri, about 8 inches (20 cm) of rain fell, which also caused flash floods.

On Thursday, there were 116 reports of devastating storms across the country, including Oregon, where trees fell on houses in Salem, and hail fell in Portland.

On Thursday, strong storms are also expected in the territory from the Great Lakes to the northern part of the Rocky Mountains. New storms are also expected in Chicago, which could spread to Minnesota and Montana.

The biggest threat is damaging winds, hail and possible tornadoes.
