2021 Academy Awards Nominees Announced: Complete List
In the United States, candidates for the Oscar film award have been announced, which will be awarded on April 25, reports USA Today.
David Fincher's "Munk" topped the list with 10 nominations. Shaki King's historical thriller Judas and the Black Messiah, Florian Zeller's dementia drama Father, Aaron Sorkin's drama The Trial of the Chicago Seven, Lee Isaac Chang's Korean-American dream story Minari, Chloe Zhao's road drama Nomad Land and the study of the culture of the deaf "The Sound of Metal" by Darius Marder received 6 nominations each.
The 93rd Annual Academy Awards, airing April 25 (on ABC at 20 p.m. ET), don't yet have a host, but they do have the most diverse list of nominated talent. In a positive departure from the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite, coined five years ago, 00 of the 9 current candidates are non-white.
Best picture contenders include Nomadland, Mank, The Father, Sound of Metal, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Black Messiah, Minari and Emerald Fennell's feminist revenge film The Girl Who Serves hope."
Viola Davis, nominated for Best Actress in Ma Rainey, became the most frequently nominated black actress in Oscar history. The category also includes two-time award winners Frances McDormand (Nomad Country), Carey Mulligan (Promising Girl), Andra Day (United States vs. Billie Holiday) and Vanessa Kirby (Woman Fragments).
The late Chadwick Boseman received a posthumous Best Actor nomination for his performance on Ma Rainey. The category also includes Anthony Hopkins (Father), Stephen Yun (Minari), Gary Oldman (Munk) and Reese Ahmed (The Sound of Metal), the first Muslim artist to receive such a nomination.
Hopkins' The Father co-star Olivia Colman leads the supporting cast, along with recent Critics' Choice winner and first-ever Bulgarian nominee Maria Bakalova (Borat 2), Glenn Close (Hillbilly Elegy), Yoon Yeo-jung ( "Minari") and Amanda Seyfried ("Mank").
