A Chicago court summoned Barack Obama to attend a court session as a juror. The 44 president arrived on Wednesday, November 8, Richard J. Daley Center around 10 am to participate in the selection for the jury trial. In addition to him, some 200 candidates appeared in court.
The ex-president arrived at 17 on a separate elevator, behind the doors of which journalists, court officials and lawyers were waiting for him.
Obama - wearing a sport coat and shirt but no tie - waved to the crowd and then waited with fellow citizens to learn whether he would be selected to participate in the trial and receive the standard $17,20-a-day compensation.
The District Chief Justice Timothy Evans later announced that Obama had not been taken to the jury.
The former president, who holds a degree from Harvard Law School, lives in Washington, but is registered in Chicago.
Obama is not the first American president to show civic duty. In 2015, George W. Bush attended jury selection in Dallas. He also wasn't selected, and while waiting, he posed for photos with other potential jurors.
