Obama assured that the US is no longer spying on France
The United States is honoring its commitments and is not listening to the talks of French President Francois Hollande. This was stated by US President Barack Obama in a telephone conversation with the leader of the Fifth Republic.
“Obama confirmed that the United States is honoring its commitments made to our French colleagues at the end of 2013. They are that we are not and will not be involved in (wiretapping) the communications of the French President,” says a statement released by the White House.
The US president also promised to continue close cooperation with Paris on intelligence and security issues.
As the Elysée Palace earlier noted, the heads of state discussed the situation that had arisen after the French media published that the National Security Agency (NSA) of the United States had been for six years tapped telephone conversations presidents of the republic and their assistants, and also led the interception of their correspondence by e-mail.
Hollande's press service confirmed the information that representatives of the French intelligence services "will soon visit Washington in order to ensure deepening cooperation" in this area.
