Obama criticized Republicans for supporting Putin

US President Barack Obama during a conference at the White House said he was surprised by the fact that a third of the representatives of the Republican party supported Vladimir Putin.

“Ronald Reagan would turn over in his grave if he knew about this,” said Barack Obama.

Obama hints that Republican President Ronald Reagan was more principled in dealing with the Soviet Union. It was Reagan, after the USSR shot down a Korean Boeing, who uttered the phrase that “The Soviet Union is an evil empire.” This was during the reign of Leonid Brezhnev. And with Mikhail Gorbachev coming to power, it was Reagan who forced the Soviet Union to move closer, agreed on disarmament, the dismantling of the Berlin Wall and largely put an end to the Cold War.

Obama obviously makes it clear that Putin is not going to make concessions to the West, so the support of Republicans looks rather strange.

Among other statements that were made at this press conference, there was also an unexpected message Obama's investigation into hacking attacks. The US President said that an investigation into interference in the electoral process will be carried out in any case. “We may not announce the results publicly, but Russia will know,” Obama said.
