What did Trump say at the UN General Assembly? VIDEO

The annual session of the UN General Assembly takes place in New York. US President Donald Trump spoke there on Tuesday. After last year’s speech by the American leader, which became Trump’s debut on the international stage - we recall that he then threatened to “completely destroy” North Korea - many were anxiously awaiting the president’s speech today.

Recall, however, that after the verbal battles that unfolded in September last year, tensions between the United States and North Korea decreased significantly, and the two leaders met to discuss the issue of denuclearizing North Korea, writes Voice of America.

From a foreign policy point of view, this year, the center of attention of Trump, apparently, is Iran, to which hard statements were made by a number of US administration representatives on the eve of the General Assembly. Turning to world leaders, Trump primarily stressed the success of the American economy, he said, moving forward like never before.

Touching upon his foreign policy achievements, the president noted a summit with the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un held in June. According to Trump, North Korea has recently taken a series of inspirational steps. The President expressed his gratitude for these steps to Kim Jong-un. However, the president stressed that the sanctions against Pyongyang will remain in force until the completion of denuclearization.

Trump stated that the US is working with the countries of the Persian Gulf, as well as with Jordan and Egypt, to create a regional strategic alliance. In connection with the Iranian problem, Trump said that the leaders of this country are wreaking havoc, death and destruction.

He also stressed that any solution to the Syrian problem should include a plan for cooperation with Iran. According to Trump, the United States launched a campaign of economic pressure on Iran in order to undermine the economic foundations of Tehran’s behavior in the region. The president said that the renewal of economic sanctions against Iran (this will happen on November 5) will be followed by new sanctions. Trump said he is asking all world leaders to help isolate the Iranian leadership as long as it follows the path of aggression.

The President stressed the US commitment to achieving peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

The US rejects the ideology of globalism, Trump said.

According to the president, OPEC countries, as usual, are deceiving the world community. He stated that they should stop raising oil prices. The president also urged the OPEC countries to spend more on defense.

Regarding the situation in Europe, Trump said that as a result of the construction of the Nord Stream, Germany will become completely dependent on Russian energy sources.

In the future, the United States will provide assistance on an international scale only to those who treat them with respect and friendliness, the president stressed.

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump said he would not meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the General Assembly, “despite (received) requests.” At the same time, Rouhani also ruled out the possibility of a meeting, saying on Monday in an interview with NBC News that the conditions for her were not ripe. President Trump made it clear, however, that he was ready to meet with Rouhani in the future - despite the ongoing tensions over the issue of the Iranian nuclear agreement.

Trump said that he expects excellent relations between the United States and Iran, but this will not happen today. The contradictions separating the USA and Iran over the decades have become even more aggravated after Trump announced in May of this year that the United States had withdrawn from the international agreement on Iran’s nuclear program concluded in 2015 and introduced new sanctions against Iran, which is part of OPEC.

Under the 2015 agreement of the year, developed during the presidency of Democrat Barack Obama, most international sanctions against Iran were lifted in exchange for suspending the Iranian nuclear program.

In the summer of this year, Trump spoke about the possibility of his meeting with the Iranian president without preliminary conditions. Last Sunday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reiterated the possibility of an American-Iranian meeting, mentioning in this context Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
