New York gives a reprieve to business for debt repayment

The authorities in New York give 90 days of deferment to businesses and individuals to pay existing debts to the city without a charge of interest. Mayor Bill de Blasio on the eve of 806-B signed the law, which introduces a new program of temporary amnesty.

First of all, we are talking about fines imposed by the Council for the Control of the Environment.

During this time, businessmen can pay off debts without paying penalties and interest on arrears. The city authorities promise an aggressive advertising campaign so that about the amnesty to know the largest possible number of debtors.

Businessmen and individuals who have been charged with penalties due to their failure to appear in court for consideration of the case must pay 100% penalty and interest. Those businessmen and individuals who have not been charged with a case have to pay only 75% of the base penalty.

The total number of violations that fall under amnesty reaches 700 000.

This innovation is included in a package of 11 laws aimed at improving the quality of life of city residents, who were signed by the mayor of New York, reports City Hall website.

The laws relate to the powers of the Ministry of Transport, the rules for the so-called pedestrian areas, taxi services, increase the efficiency of collecting fines. In particular, one of the laws will not allow taxis and online services to raise tariffs. Another law introduces restrictions for street performers, speakers in Times Square and other areas of the city.
