Room in an expensive hotel and spa: how turkeys were prepared for a pardon ceremony at the White House
On the eve of Thanksgiving, US President Donald Trump held a traditional turkey pardon ceremony at the White House. Birds were brought to Washington in advance so that they could prepare for an important meeting with the president. Instead of cells, they were accommodated in a room in a good hotel.
From a North Carolina farm to one of the best hotels in Washington. At the Willard Hotel, very close to the White House, two of the luckiest Indians in the United States were preparing to meet the American President. Bread and Butter - these are the names Donald and Melania Trump chose for their specially raised turkeys. On November 26, Bread and Butter met with the presidential couple at the White House, says Present Tense.
Turkeys arrived in Washington 2 days before the pardon ceremony, because you need to prepare for such an important event in advance.
“This is the 12th time our hotel has welcomed these very special guests,” said Marcus Planter, general manager of the Willard Hotel. “As you can see for yourself, they are very comfortable here.” Look how white they are! They took a shower with shampoo, then walked through the hotel’s historical gallery, and later they will have several more treatments.”

The National Federation of Turkeys is responsible for raising future Thanksgiving heroes. It is they who decide which turkeys are destined to become presidential.
“These turkeys are 19 weeks old. Their preparation for a visit to the White House begins almost from birth, says Carrie Doty, head of the National Turkey Federation. “They have to get used to a lot of people and noise. Such conditions, of course, differ from farm conditions.”

The turkey at the historic hotel is paid by the federation. True, the cost of a beautiful life for Bread and Butter is not disclosed. To make the stay of birds in the capital even more comfortable, the farmers took them on a trip to the organizers.
“I'm just a farmer, but I really enjoy it,” says Willie Jackson. “So much attention, so much press, and it’s all about two turkeys that I raised.” It's amazing!"
Who exactly the president has mercy on is decided by voting on the White House website. Do not worry about the fate of the loser: both turkeys will survive. After the ceremony, they will go to Virginia University of Technology, where the lucky last years already live.
The tradition of giving a turkey to the president began in 1947 under Harry Truman. The first official ceremony to pardon a turkey took place much later—42 years later. In 1989, President George H. W. Bush decided to take pity and let the birds live. Since then, Thanksgiving in the White House has not been complete without this good tradition.
