Cruise ship quarantined due to coronavirus off the coast of California: Ukrainians and Russians on board

On board the cruise ship Grand Princess are 49 Ukrainians. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported that a coronavirus was found on the liner, informs Air force.

Now the ship Grand Princess is anchored off the coast of California. There are 3,5 thousand people on board the ship - these are citizens of 54 countries. Among them, 21 cases of coronavirus infection were found.

The entire liner, it was decided to check for coronavirus.

The panic around the ship began this week when it became known about the death of a 71-year-old man in California, who was cruising on Grand Princess in February.

The ship was sailing from San Francisco to Mexico.

Then tests showed a positive result for coronavirus in another passenger who is currently undergoing treatment in California. After that, the state declared a state of emergency.

The ship was banned from entering the harbor of San Francisco. U.S. Coast Guard helicopters delivered onboard tests for COVID-19.

They should check all passengers who could potentially have contact with a man who died in California, as well as all who show signs of a respiratory infection.

Depending on the test results, they will decide whether to quarantine only part of the passengers or the entire ship, the Foreign Ministry emphasized.

The Consulate General of Ukraine in San Francisco is figuring out whether Ukrainians are sick.

Previously, 25 Ukrainians were quarantined on the Diamond Princess ship in Japan. There in February, hundreds of people caught the coronavirus. Among them were four Ukrainians. Three of them are still being treated at a hospital in Tokyo. People from the ship Diamond Princess have already released.

Also on board the cruise ship Grand Princess, were four Russians. This was reported in the company-operator of the vessel Princess Cruises, writes Slow.

It is specified that all Russian citizens on it are members of the crew. Russian diplomats are awaiting confirmation of this information from the US authorities.

According to recent data, in the United States recorded 233 cases of coronavirus. For 12 people it cost a life, eight more were cured. In total, more than 98 thousand people are infected with the virus in the world.
