A 5,8-magnitude earthquake shook Northern California Sunday night, shaking people north of Sacramento all the way to the Oregon border.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred more than 50 miles (more precisely, 86 km) off the coast of Petrolia.
Residents of Petrolia and another coastal city, Eureka, felt the earthquake from inside their homes, and it was felt further south - towards Ukiah, north to the Oregon border and on the mainland to Redding.

Authorities said that after the earthquake there were no injuries or serious injuries. The jolt peak was felt around 20 p.m., according to Jessica Turner, a geophysicist at the US Geological Survey (USGS).
At best, furniture that was not bolted to the wall could fall. But, according to Turner, people in this region have the experience of earthquakes and work hard to preserve large items.
