In 2020, two American airlines raised baggage fees at once.
United Airlines has increased its baggage fee by $5. In January, another large American company, JetBlue Airways, resorted to an increase. Writes about this USA Today.
The first bag now costs $35, and the second one costs $45. Travelers can avoid the new fee by pre-paying for luggage when purchasing their ticket. Prices for this type of baggage remain $30 and $40 if paid any time prior to online check-in.
The increase will concern trips starting on March 6th. Travelers who bought their tickets before Friday, February 21 will pay at the old rates.

United spokeswoman Maddy King said the increase applies to flights to the United States and short flights to the Caribbean and Latin America.
Other major airlines are likely to follow the example of these two carriers and also increase baggage prices.
Many airlines, including Spirit, Frontier and Allegiant, have already set ranked prices for baggage and carry-on baggage, depending on when you buy tickets, as well as where and when you fly.
