US fighters once again intercepted Russian bombers near Alaska
During a flight over neutral waters near Alaska, American fighters intercepted two groups of Russian nuclear bombers, writes Fox News.
The first group consisted of two Tu-95 bombers, accompanied by two Su-35 fighters and an A-50 early warning and control aircraft. The group was 20 nautical miles off the coast of Alaska, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
The second group consisted of two Tu-95 bombers, supported by A-50 aircraft, and was 32 nautical miles from the shores of Alaska.
Both groups were met by F-22 Raptors North American Aerospace Defense Command aircraft, supported by the KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft and the E-3 airborne warning and control system.
Russian military aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter US sovereign airspace.
“The interception of multiple Russian aircraft demonstrates NORAD forces' readiness and ability to defend the homeland 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year,” said General Terrence O'Shaughnessy, NORAD commander. “Flying air patrols protect our countries' approaches and send a clear signal that we continue to carry out our homeland defense missions with the same capabilities and effort we always bring to the fight.”
