'It's very sweet': Russia sent medical protection to the United States to fight against coronavirus

“I have to say that we have developed excellent relations with many countries,” the president said during a daily press briefing of the working group on the fight against coronavirus on March 30. “China sent us some things, which was wonderful.” Russia sent us a whole plane of medical equipment, which was very nice. Other countries also sent us things, which I was very pleasantly surprised. ”

In the White House on the evening of March 31, information was confirmed about the arrival of the aircraft with medical cargo from Russia.

“We expect a Russian plane with personal protective equipment to arrive tomorrow - President Putin suggested this to President Trump during a call yesterday. We will immediately begin using all necessary items approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA),” the White House said.

According to the Russian Ambassador in Washington, Anatoly Antonov, the An-124 Ruslan heavy military transport aircraft is carrying humanitarian cargo “through the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade. This issue was agreed upon by the presidents of our countries,” quotes "Voice of America".

According to the ambassador, at the moment Russia has resources that it can share with other countries.

At the same time, the diplomat added: “No one can exclude the possibility that we, too, may need help from abroad. We have friends who are ready to help us. ”

According to TASS, a plane from Russia with medical equipment for the United States arrived at John F. Kennedy New York Airport. The unloading of the aircraft can begin at 17:00 local time (24:00 Moscow time).

“The plane has just taxied to the site where unloading will take place, the engines have not even been turned off,” this source noted on the afternoon of April 1.

“The plane with Russian medical equipment was sent as aid to the United States to assist in the fight against coronavirus,” Dmitry Polyansky, Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, said on Twitter on Wednesday. “This is an example of solidarity in action - together we will overcome difficulties.”

Earlier on April 1, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the plane took off from the Chkalovsky airfield near Moscow.

The United States currently ranks first in the world in the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection. As of 17:00 p.m. ET on April 1, the total number of infections in the United States was 211, and the number of deaths was 143.
