Netflix to raise prices from May
Netflix is set to raise the price of its most popular package by 25% starting in May, to $9,99 a month for its HD streaming service.
Starting in May, standard HD service will rise in price by $2 - from $7,99 to $9,99 per month, reports Chicago tribune.
“Registered users will be notified in advance via email to give them time to decide which plan and price is best for them,” the company said in a statement.
Those who are already a Netflix subscriber before 2017 will not be charged a price.
The price hike will also affect Netflix customers in the UK, they will pay for the two-stream HD service 7,49 pounds sterling (about 10,57 dollars) per month.
According to UBS analyst Doug Mitchelson, the increase in prices for streaming service will affect 17 millions of company subscribers.
Netflix ended 2015 with 74,76 million customers worldwide, including 44,74 million in the United States.
In the first quarter of 2016, the company expected to add 4,35 million subscribers worldwide and 1,76 million in the United States. According to UBS, these forecasts came true.
