Illegals released from custody over COVID-19 commit crimes again
Some illegal immigrants released from custody in October following a court order due to the safety of the spread of COVID-19 have been re-arrested for new crimes, according to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In particular, for sexual violence against minors and drug-related crimes. Writes about it Fox News.
ICE released 250 inmates from its facility in Adelanto, California after a federal judge ordered a cut in the number of people to stop the spread of coronavirus infection.
ICE complied with the decree, but strongly objected to it for public safety reasons. She even published a list of criminal charges and convictions against those she believed were forced into the streets.
The US Immigration and Customs Service said more than 85% of the approximately 730 immigrants in Adelanto are awaiting criminal charges or sentences. Because of the decree, 465 people left the center.

However, the agency announced that several people were arrested again a few weeks after they were released from custody, including a 50-year-old Indian citizen arrested on charges of sexual assault against minors.
“The fact that some of the released prisoners committed crimes demonstrates the dangers of these court-authorized releases,” said ICE Acting Director Tony Pham. “We warned that the releases would affect public safety. And unfortunately, it didn’t take long for some of these criminals to commit crimes again.”
“This proves that many of these illegal immigrants are repeat offenders who should not have been released in the first place,” he said.

Under the administration of incumbent US President Donald Trump, the agency launched a series of operations aimed at immigrant criminals, and opposed the "asylum" policy, according to which local law enforcement agencies are prohibited or limited from cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
Newly elected President Joe Biden has pledged to take a different approach to immigration law, including a 100-day moratorium on ICE deportation after he officially becomes president.
