Remembers neither wife nor daughter: a Texas resident has completely forgotten the last 20 years of his life

Sounds like something out of a movie, but it really happened to 36-year-old Daniel Porter. In July 2020, Daniel woke up next to his wife and found that he had no idea where he was or who was next to him. Details of the unusual story told the publication Metro.

In what must have been a horrific ordeal, Ruth's 37-year-old wife had to convince him that she was in fact his wife and that he had not been kidnapped.

A Texas couple needed the help of Daniel's parents, whom he also remembered.

He didn't even remember his own 10-year-old daughter Libby.

Daniel woke up thinking that he was in the 1990s and had to get ready for school. In an instant, 20 years of memories disappeared.

Although he is currently working to repair the memory gap from 2000 to 2020, he still does not remember anything, including his wedding day and Libby's birth.

Ruth said: “One morning my husband woke up and didn’t know who I was or where he was. Daniel was very confused, he did not recognize the room - he thought that he was either drunk and went home with a woman, or he had been kidnapped. I saw my husband looking for a way to escape home.”

“Then I realized that Daniel thought it was the 1990s because he remembered a WWE program, so I started looking for when it was on the air,” Ruth recalls. “I helped him get dressed, and he thought these were the clothes of my husband, who should be home any minute.”

“Fortunately, we were at his parents' farm and they could confirm that I was his wife. The husband believed them, but had no idea that he had a daughter, and besides, he was afraid of our dogs. Daniel got angry when he looked at himself in the mirror: he asked why he was old and fat ", — remembered the details of her husband.

When the man was admitted to the hospital, it was discovered that Daniel had suffered temporary global amnesia, which is a sudden temporary impairment of short-term memory.

The couple was told to expect his memory to return within 24 hours, but this did not happen.

Not only did he lose memories of his loved ones and important moments in life, such as meeting Ruth in 2006, but he also lost all memories of his education and was forced to leave his job as a hearing specialist.

Ruth tried to restore her husband's memory. She traveled around his old neighborhood with him and again introduced him to friends in the hope that it would help in some way.

She said: “He doesn't remember how he met me, how he got married, how I got pregnant, how we bought our first house, or the birth of a daughter or 11/XNUMX. It's strange because I have an old relationship and he has a new one. "

“He hid Libby's birthday gifts a week before he got sick, so when her birthday came we couldn't find them because my husband couldn't remember where he put them. We didn't find any gifts in time, and only four months later we found the shoes. By that time, the daughter had already grown out of them,” Ruth said.

“His personality is different too. He has different tastes in food, and it's really strange. But my husband still has a good sense of humor. He is more friendly and sociable, loves to go for walks, but is not yet used to going out in public,” the wife shares.

Ruth recalls that a few months before the fateful day, Daniel started having seizures caused by the stress of life changes. First he lost his job, then hurt his sleep, then the couple were forced to sell the house and most of the property, writes TSN.

They moved to Missouri for work, but they weren't paid, so the family was stranded with no friends and family around. It is believed that cumulative stress caused Daniel's memory loss.

Now the man is going to undergo therapy to restore his memories. Ruth says he still has a hard time memorizing something.
