'Don't move to Texas': Weird billboards appear in major California cities
This week, residents of Los Angeles and San Francisco, California were greeted with an ominous and controversial billboard with a stern warning "Don't move to Texas." What is happening, the publication found out Yahoo!.
“The Texas miracle died in Uvalda. Don't move to Texas," reads the billboard.
It features a creepy man in a hood and sunglasses with the famous Texas phrase "Don't mess with Texas", albeit crossed out.
The "Texas Miracle" was a term coined by then-Texas Governor Rick Perry in 2011 following his announcement that the state's economy had managed to weather the nation's Great Recession.
The message "Don't Mess with Texas" was coined by the Texas Department of Transportation as a trash campaign, but it has become a popular and proud slogan for the people of the state.
The photograph of the billboard was uploaded to reddit, and many commentators in various California and Texas threads wondered who was behind the billboard and what message the advertiser was trying to send.

Although the billboard does not show any obvious political affiliation or sponsor, some Reddit users have suggested that the billboard is trying to send a message, possibly coming from heavily conservative Texans who are trying to stop the spread of liberal Californians moving to Texas. Others suggest that the billboard was created by Californians who are trying to slow down the exodus of residents leaving for Texas.
The Los Angeles billboard is located at the intersection of Barham and Cahuenga Boulevards overlooking Highway 101. The San Francisco billboard, located near the intersection of Folsom Street and 7th Street, is leased to advertisers by FoxPoint Media, an advertising company based in Chicago (Illinois).
Along with the Texas Resettlement Bureau, Texas ranked second in the nation for relocation, with the largest number of new residents coming from California and Florida, respectively, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. California ranked first in the number of residents traveling outside the state.

Some Reddit users have expressed anger at the use of the Uvalde school shooting tragedy, which claimed the lives of 22 people, including 19 children, in May. One Reddit user called the billboard "nasty" while another said it was "fucking disgusting".
The long-standing turf war between Texas and California was immortalized by California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, with Newsom running a full-page ad criticizing the conservative governor earlier this year in three of the state's biggest newspapers, including the Houston Chronicle, El Paso Times, and the Austin- American Statesman.
