NASA creates unit to study UFOs
The NASA space agency has announced that it is creating an independent UFO study team to find out how much information is available on the subject and how much more is needed to understand the unexplained phenomena. Experts will consider, among other things, how best to use all this information in the future. AP News.
NASA science mission chief Thomas Zurbuchen acknowledged that the traditional scientific community may consider this act "a kind of betrayal," but he strongly disagrees.
“We don't shy away from reputational risk,” Zurbuchen said. “We strongly believe that the biggest problem with these phenomena is that this is a data-poor field.”

NASA experts consider this the first step in an attempt to explain mysterious sightings or unidentified aerial phenomena.
The study will begin this fall and will last nine months at a cost of no more than $100. It will be completely open, without the use of secret military data.

NASA said the team will be led by astrophysicist David Spergel, president of the Simons Foundation for the Advancement of Science. As Spergel said, the only preconceived notion associated with the study is that these phenomena are likely to have multiple explanations.
“We have to approach all these issues with a sense of humility,” he said. — Most of my career, I was engaged in cosmology, so I will say: we do not know what 95% of the Universe consists of. So there are things that we don't understand."
