'We don't need the Chinese Communist Party here': DeSantis banned Chinese citizens from buying land in Florida
On May 8, Florida Gov. DeSantis signed into law a bill that would prevent Chinese citizens from buying land in the state unless they are US citizens or permanent residents. FoxNews.
“We don’t want the Chinese Communist Party in the Sunshine State,” DeSantis said at a news conference in Brooksville, Florida. “We want to preserve freedom in the state of Florida.”
The Republican Governor expressed concern that the CCP is making "a concerted effort to acquire farmland throughout the United States," including in Florida.
"Food security is also national security, so we don't want the CCP to be in charge of any food production," DeSantis said.

China owned more than 2020 hectares of land in the US in 175, about 000% of the total foreign-owned hectares, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
Senate Bill 264 also bans citizens of Russia, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela — called "countries of concern" — from owning land within 16 miles of military bases and critical infrastructure such as airports and power plants. But only Chinese citizens will be banned from owning land anywhere in Florida.
goodbye american dream
Last month, dozens of Chinese Americans opposed the bill, fearing it could lead to discrimination. Others feared it would prevent them from buying houses if they had not yet become legal permanent residents.
“Once they accept it, I won’t be able to buy a house here in Florida,” said H-1B visa holder Zihua He. “This is part of my American dream.”

Other states, such as Texas, are considering similar measures. Senator Tom Cotton is calling for a total ban on Chinese buying property on American soil.
TikTok blocking
DeSantis signed two additional bills aimed at reducing China's influence in Florida.
SB 258 blocks access to apps like TikTok on government devices and networks. SB 846 prohibits Florida State universities and colleges from accepting grants from "foreign countries of concern" or from partnering with universities based in such countries unless specific conditions are met.
The three bills were passed by both houses of the Republican-controlled Florida Legislature with bipartisan support. DeSantis said he hopes all states follow Florida's lead.
“We really need to join forces in this country to contain the CCP's ambitions and influence,” he said. “Part of this is asserting our economic sovereignty.”
