Days of free entry to national parks in 2018

US national parks and forests, which usually charge an entrance fee, will open their doors for free to everyone on January 15 in honor of Martin Luther King Day.
In total, 2018 will be 4 days with free admission to national parks: 15 January (Martin Luther King Day), 21 April (first day of National Parks Week), 22 September (Public Land Day), and 11 November (Veterans Day), reported on the site US National Park Services.
The agency did not name the reason, but in 2018 the number of free days in National Parks decreased by more than 2 times compared to last year. In 2017 there were 10 of them, in 2016 - 16 days.
On free days, visitors can save 25-30 dollars that need to be paid for admission (the fee is taken not from a person, but from a car entering the park, even if there are several passengers) in 118 taking money for entering parks from more than 400 national parks operating throughout the country.
Last year, the National Park Service offered to increase the cost of entrance tickets to some of the most popular parks to 70 dollars. Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Zion were on the list to increase the cost of entry. The public discussion on this issue ended on December 22, a decision on it has not yet been announced.
National forests in 2018 offer 6 free days: January 15 (Martin Luther King Day), February 19 (Presidents Day), June 19 (National Day of Nature Hikes), September 22 (Public Land Day), 11 and November 12 (Day veterans).
