On GoFundMe there was a fundraiser to pay compensation to Johnny Depp from Amber Heard: it was immediately deleted

GoFundMe has removed a fake $1 million fundraiser claiming it was created to help Amber Heard pay $10 million in damages to Johnny Depp. Writes about it Insider.

The GoFundMe collection was launched after a high-profile lawsuit between Hurd, 36, and Depp, 58, ended this week. The jury decided that Heard should pay Depp more than $10 million in damages.

The description of the GoFundMe fundraiser claimed that the writer was in touch with Heard's legal team and that the actress would have direct access to the funds.

The fundraiser titled "Justice for Amber Heard" read: "The trial was a disgrace. I believe Amber and social media protected the abuser. It's so sad that he was able to get away with it. If you can, please help her."

The spokesperson said the GoFundMe page was closed before a "substantial" amount of money was raised. Neither Hurd nor her legal team organized a fundraiser.

A GoFundMe spokesperson said it will "delete all fundraisers unless there is a direct connection to the recipient and the fundraiser has not been authorized by them." The statement added that "GoFundMe's top priority is to keep the community safe and protect donor generosity."

The jury found Depp and Heard guilty of defamation after another trial in Virginia. A jury awarded Depp $15 million in damages after finding Heard slandered him when she identified herself as a victim of domestic violence in a 2018 Washington Post article.

They decided that Hurd should pay $10 million in damages and $5 million in punitive damages, although the punitive damages were reduced to $350 under Virginia law.

A jury awarded Heard $2 million in damages. The lawsuit began in April after Depp filed a $50 million libel suit against Heard and Heard countersued for $100 million.

A day after the trial, Hurd's lawyer Elaine Bredehof said the actress would not be able to pay damages.
