You can study in the USA and get paid for it: marijuana will help you with this

Lake Superior University (LSSU) Michigan students have the unique opportunity to pursue a degree in cannabis chemistry since 2019. Now they will also be paid a scholarship for this, writes CNN.

The university is offering its first scholarship to students studying cannabis chemistry.

Steadfast Labs, a cannabis testing center in Hazel Park, Michigan, will fund a $ 1200 annual scholarship for students pursuing a cannabis chemistry degree at LSSU.

“We are committed to encouraging and supporting scientific talent,” said Avram Zallen, founder and CEO of Steadfast Labs. “We believe education is the key to improving safety and integrity in the industry.”

Applicants must be at least sophomore and have a GPA of at least 3,0. Preference goes to students residing in the Detroit area where the company's service areas are located.

This is not the first time the school has pioneered the cannabis industry. It launched the country's first cannabis chemistry program in 2019, according to a university press release.

College of Science and Environment Dean Steve Johnson said enrollment in the program is "growing exponentially."

In February 2020, LSSU opened its plant to study the chemistry of cannabis. Students use real cannabis buds, not plant surrogates. LSSU states that it "fully complies with all legal requirements for the limited use of regulated materials in educational institutions." Recreational and medical marijuana use is legal in Michigan.

While the LSSU claims to have created the first program in the US to “focus exclusively on cannabis chemistry,” universities across the country have begun offering something similar in recent years.

The LSSU claims the cannabis industry is projected to create over 500 jobs by 000. The university's website says that students with a cannabis degree will be ready to work in "emerging cannabis markets, including law enforcement officials, laboratories, the public health and safety industry, regulatory management and business." Positions that will apply for students include clinical chemist, product safety and quality control chemist, and formulation / process development scientist.
