The scammer tricked Amazon into $ 370 thousand, returning parcels instead of goods
A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly defrauding Amazon of $370 through a cunning return scheme.
James Gilbert Quarteng from Palma de Mallorca, Spain, filled the boxes of ordered goods with earth and recorded the exact weight of such goods. He then made a return to Amazon and sent back a parcel full of land, writes Fox Business.
The young man received a refund from Amazon and sold the original item.
Parcels with the return eventually settled in the warehouses of Amazon, where they are rarely checked. Nobody suspected fraud until, as a result of a random choice, one of the employees opened the box and saw that it was filled with earth.

Amazon’s return policy states that products ordered from a website, including Amazon Warehouse, may be returned within 30 days of receipt. Refunds are processed within two business days, and customers can expect their funds to be returned to the account within 3-5 business days.
The report says that, thanks to a successful fraud scheme and a large amount received as a result of fraud, Quarteng was able to invest in his own new business.
