Monica Lewinsky will release a series about an affair with Clinton: it will be very frank

Monica Lewinsky asked to add the infamous scene where she showed her thong to then-President Bill Clinton in the upcoming series about their novel, Impeachment: An American Crime Story. It will be the third season of the nearly-eponymous American Crime Story series. Writes about it NY Daily News.

Lewinsky, 48, was the producer of the series and said the writers weren't originally involved in the filming.

"I wish I could be really selfish, but I'm incredibly skilled at understanding how people see the story," she commented.

Lewinsky noted that one way or another she would have been accused of lying if the scene had not been included.

“So I ended up realizing two things: first, I don't have to get permission because I'm a producer,” she noted. “And secondly, it would be unfair to the team and the project because it would make everyone vulnerable.”

Lead Writer Sarah Burgess said she didn't write the scene because she didn't want to hurt Lewinsky any further.

The American Crime Story showrunners first scheduled a season based on Clinton and Lewinsky in 2016, and Monica joined the project in 2019. Showrunner Ryan Murphy said he wouldn't move forward without her approval.

Beanie Feldstein will play Lewinsky, and the two were in constant contact when production of the series began and then stopped during the COVID-19 pandemic. No one, including the Clintons, has been consulted about their appearance on the show, which will premiere on September 7th.

American Crime Story

“American Crime Story” is a famous TV series, each season of which deals with different themes based on real events.

The first season, entitled "The People vs. O. Jay Simpson," describes the story of the trial of a famous football player who was accused of murdering his ex-wife and her lover. A season based on Jeffrey Tobin's book The Run of His Life: The People v. OJ Simpson.

The second season of the series explores the murder of designer Gianni Versace by serial killer Andrew Cunenen. It is based on Marin Orth's book Vulgar Services: Andrew Cunenen, Gianni Versace and the Unsuccessful Police Ambush in US History.

The literary basis for the script for the third season was Jeffrey Toobin's book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President. In the upcoming season, Edie Falco will play the role of Hillary Clinton, and Clive Owen will play Bill Clinton. The beloved star of the projects “American Crime Story” and “American Horror Story” Sarah Paulson will also appear in the series.
