Microsoft buys LinkedIn for $ 26 billion
Microsoft will buy LinkedIn social network for $ 26,2 billion
CEO Satya Nadella said the deal "brings together a global leader in cloud services for business and a leading social network for professional networking."
The number of LinkedIn users is estimated at more than 400 million.
According to representatives of both parties, LinkedIn will maintain “its recognizable brand, culture and independence.”
The transaction is expected to close this year.
Microsoft said in a statement that the company will pay $196 per share of the social network, which exceeds the stock price at the close of trading on Friday by 49,5%. On Monday morning, after news of the deal, LinkedIn shares soared 49%, the Associated Press reports.
It is also reported that in case of termination of the purchase contract, the social network will have to pay Microsoft $ 725 million.
In April, it became known that the revenues of the American corporation Microsoft declined sharply due to falling sales of personal computers. At the same time, the company's cloud business revenues are growing. The corporation says they intend to more actively develop their cloud services.
“Digital transformation is our top priority. Both large established companies and startups are using our cloud solutions to grow faster and generate new revenue,” Microsoft spokesman Kevin Turner said at the time.
