Arne Toman, Douglas Tabbatt and Berkeley Chadwick say they drove as fast as they could and got from New York to Los Angeles in just 27 hours and 25 minutes. According to them, they drove at an average speed of 103 miles per hour (165 km / h), and the maximum mark they reached was 193 miles per hour (310 km / h).

“Breaking the Cannonball record has been my lifelong dream,” Toman said. - I don't intend to do this again. We had great weather, no maintenance, etc. I don't think we could do it again or not get caught by the police again."

The men left New York on November 11 at 12: 57 and arrived in Los Angeles in just over a day. They chose the “carefully prepared” Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG for their race with an exhaust upgrade. Two turbochargers in the engines produced more than 800 horsepower.

They said they took advantage of "navigation assistance and every way 'known to man' to avoid being caught by police, using technology such as Waze and radar detectors, as well as about 20 assistants to help them evade police."

“It was a team effort because we all dreamed of breaking this record someday,” Toman said.

The previous record was set by Ed Bolian and Dave Black, who traveled this distance in 28 hours and 50 minutes in 2013 year. And in 2016, the rider completed the race in 38 hours, 49 minutes.

Riding all over the country is fun, but not unsafe for yourself or others on the road. The Road Safety Association criticized the event, saying the "motoring public" considers speeding to be an acceptable part of their culture.
