The American dream became anti-California: how business is done on it
In recent years, the number of Californians leaving the state has outpaced the number of new residents moving in, and the exodus has created opportunities for businesses offering to help disillusioned residents settle in other parts of the United States. Writes about this Fox Business.
Two of these companies, LeavingTheBayArea.com and LeavingSoCal.com, were founded by Scott Fuller, a real estate broker who now resides in Arizona. Fuller explained that he got the ideas for these companies from working with a lot of clients who were “tired of what was happening in California.”
He said he founded companies to provide services to people who "want to move, but need help with the move itself."
“Overwhelmingly, we have found that our clients who moved out of state were happy with their decision and did not return,” Fuller stated.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the most common motives for Californians to leave were the cost of living, traffic, road congestion and housing prices, he said.
“People are now much more concerned about what will happen with tax increases,” the broker said. “We are seeing more and more high-income people considering moving out of California because they are concerned about significant tax rate increases.”
Fuller said many residents have been worried about the state's massive fires and how to deal with them in recent months.

Another company offering assistance in relocating from California is ExitCalifornia.org. Visitors are asked to complete a “60-second relocation assessment” and are then contacted by a relocation consultant.
Social media groups revolving around the topic of leaving California have also grown, along with widespread discontent. One of them is Leaving California, a Facebook group of nearly 23 members with the stated goal of “helping people leave California for a better life, less traffic, lower taxes, less regulation, better education, lower cost of living, etc.” d."
A larger and newer Facebook group is Life After California, with over 36 members. The page features experiences and advice from people who have moved from California, but also welcomes people who are currently in the state and considering leaving.
Statistics released late last year by the California Department of the Treasury showed that the state lost nearly 2018 people between July 2019 and July 40. State officials said that for the first time since the 000 census, more people left California during the year than entered. It was the slowest recorded growth rate in the state in over a century.
